Air Traffic

We provide advanced air traffic management solutions for the safe, efficient and sustainable operation of the UK and Ireland's airspace and airports, supported by a long‑standing partnership with NATS and strengthened by Park Air’s expertise in ground‑to‑air communications.

We help shape the future of air mobility as a global leader in air traffic control and aeronautical systems. Working closely with air navigation service providers and industry partners, we guide the sector towards safer, more efficient, and more sustainable skies by embedding advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence, augmented reality, and data analytics across the entire lifecycle of our ATM (Air Traffic Management) and CNS (Communications, Navigation, and Surveillance) solutions.

We are at the forefront of international innovation programmes that are transforming air traffic management, driving greater capacity, interoperability, and operational efficiency while reducing flight times, fuel consumption, and CO₂ emissions. Through these initiatives, we empower operators to make the right decisions even in the most complex scenarios, contributing to safer skies and a more sustainable future for aviation.

The United Kingdom is one of Indra’s most strategic markets in the field of ATM. Our strong position in the country is built on more than fifteen years of collaboration with NATS, the UK’s air navigation service provider and a global benchmark in the sector. NATS identifies Indra as one of its two ‘key’ technology suppliers, a status reserved only for partners with direct impact on mission critical operations.

The collaboration between Indra and NATS began in 2008 with the development of the iTEC system, now one of the most advanced air traffic management platforms worldwide. Since 2016, iTEC has been operational in the upper airspace of Scotland, and we are currently working on new versions that will modernise the Scottish area control centre and later support full deployment across UK airspace.

Indra has a robust and highly specialised industrial footprint in the United Kingdom, with more than 350 skilled professionals distributed across centres of excellence that support both the local market and international programmes:

  • Whiteley, Hampshire – Engineering and Deployment for NATS Projects
  • Indra Park Air – Peterborough, Cambridgeshire
  • Indra MicroNav – Bournemouth, Dorset
  • Indra GlobalATS – Gloucester, Gloucestershire

Surveillance

At Indra, we advance the future of air surveillance with a comprehensive portfolio of cutting‑edge solutions for air traffic management, from primary and secondary radars to advanced ADS‑B technologies. Our systems deliver precise, reliable detection even in the most demanding operational environments, supporting safer and more efficient skies worldwide.

Through continuous innovation, we drive the evolution of air surveillance, strengthening the safety, efficiency and resilience of global airspace. Our expertise is trusted in the modernisation of national surveillance networks in leading markets such as Germany, United Kingdom, and the United States, reinforcing Indra’s role as a key partner in shaping the next generation of air traffic management.

Radars

At Indra, we lead the evolution of primary radar technology, delivering highly accurate detection in the most complex and congested airspaces, even under adverse weather conditions.

Our advanced L‑band and S‑band radars integrate cutting‑edge capabilities such as drone detection, electronic scanning, monopulse technology, and next‑generation GaN‑based transmission, combining maximum reliability with greater efficiency and a significantly reduced environmental footprint.

Designed to meet the highest ICAO and EUROCONTROL standards, our solutions help shape safer, more resilient, and more sustainable skies worldwide.

PSR and MSSR

Our PSR (Primary Surveillance Radars) systems are already operating in some of the world’s busiest skies. With advanced L‑band and S‑band technologies, drone detection capabilities and a significantly reduced environmental footprint, Indra helps ensure safer, more resilient and sustainable airspace operations in the UK and worldwide.

Indra’s MSSR (Monopulse Secondary Surveillance Radar) NEO represents the next generation of secondary surveillance radar, combining a fully digital architecture with cutting‑edge technologies to enhance performance, reliability, and operational efficiency. Integrating ADS‑B data, advanced reception, and decoding capabilities, and GaN‑based transmission, its modular and configurable design optimises coverage and air traffic management, supporting safer, smarter, and more resilient skies.

Communications

At Indra, we connect the sky with the ground through market‑leading ground‑to‑air communication systems that enhance safety, efficiency and interoperability across air traffic operations.

Our fully IP‑based VoIP platforms, advanced radio communication solutions and intelligent recording and monitoring technologies ensure clear, reliable, and high‑quality communications for control centres, towers, and backup systems, empowering air navigation stakeholders to operate with confidence in even the most demanding environments.

Radios

With 60 years of expertise, Park Air is a world leader in manufacturing VHF radios for aviation, exported to more than 150 countries.

By anticipating future operational needs, we deliver secure, scalable, and high‑performance voice and data communication systems that set new standards in safety and efficiency, supporting air navigation service providers with advanced connectivity, cybersecurity, outstanding RF performance and the capabilities required to operate confidently in an increasingly complex aviation environment.

Park Air products form the backbone of the FAA’s NEXCOM programme in the United States, and have recently been selected to renew all radios used for air traffic and air defence operations in Brazil.

Automation

At Indra, we design and deliver air traffic management solutions with a clear mission: to make airspace operations safer, more efficient and more sustainable. Drawing on extensive experience in complex ATC programmes, we integrate in‑house and third‑party technologies to provide end‑to‑end solutions—from turnkey control centres and traffic flow management to conventional and digital tower systems—enhancing situational awareness, optimising capacity and supporting the vision of a more interoperable and environmentally responsible aviation ecosystem.

iTEC

iTEC SkyNex is a pioneering multinational alliance of eight air navigation service providers, with Indra as its sole technology partner, working together to make the vision of the Digital Single Sky a reality.

Powered by advanced automation and 4D trajectory technologies, iTEC SkyNex manages some of the world’s most complex airspaces, optimising capacity while reducing flight times, fuel consumption and CO₂ emissions, and enabling safer, more efficient and more sustainable air traffic management at global scale.
